Baby Do Die Do Movie Review
Rating: 3.5/5
Baby Do Die Do is a stylish and unconventional Hindi crime thriller that puts Huma Qureshi front and centre as Baby Karmarkar, a deaf and mute contract killer caught between Mumbai’s criminal underworld and the trauma of her past. Directed by Nachiket Samant, the film mixes revenge, mystery, dark humour and neo-noir action into a distinctive package.
Huma Qureshi is easily the film’s biggest strength. She carries much of the movie through her physical acting and commanding screen presence, particularly in scenes where Baby has to communicate without conventional dialogue. Critics have widely praised her performance, with The Times of India calling the film stylish and engaging and giving it 3.5/5.
The action sequences are slick, while the Mumbai setting adds atmosphere and personality to the story. The film also benefits from its unusual protagonist and pulpy tone, giving it a different flavour from the usual Bollywood revenge thrillers.
However, the screenplay isn't consistently strong. Some of the mystery is revealed too early, which reduces the suspense, while certain storylines feel underdeveloped. The film also takes longer than necessary to reach its strongest moments. Hindustan Times similarly felt that the thriller reveals too much too soon, while NDTV criticised the writing and felt the movie doesn't fully capitalise on its promising premise.
Despite these flaws, Baby Do Die Do remains an entertaining one-time watch, particularly for viewers who enjoy offbeat crime thrillers. It may not completely live up to its intriguing premise, but Huma Qureshi's performance, the stylish action and the film's distinctive Mumbai noir atmosphere make it worth checking out.
Verdict: Baby Do Die Do is a stylish, female-led revenge thriller with a terrific Huma Qureshi performance. The writing could have been tighter, but the film has enough attitude, action and originality to make it an enjoyable watch.
